Hingtergrund:
V-Disc war ein Plattenlabel, das während des Zweiten Weltkriegs durch eine besondere Vereinbarung zwischen der US-Regierung und verschiedenen privaten US-Plattenfirmen gegründet wurde. Viele bekannte Schager-Sänger, Swing Big-Bands und Tanzmusik-Orchester der damaligen Zeit nahmen spezielle V-Disc-Platten auf. Diese 12-Zoll-Schallplatten mit 78 U/min (Material: Vinyl oder Schellack) wurden zwischen 1943 und 1949 erstellt. Das „V“ steht für „Victory“.
Die Schallplatten wurden den im Ausland stationieren Soldaten zur moralischen Stärkung und Unterhaltung übersandt. Von Oktober 1943 bis Mai 1949 wurden acht Millionen 12-Zoll-Vinylit-Scheiben an die US-Streitkräfte im Einsatz geliefert. Nach dem Ende des V-Disc-Programms im Jahr 1949 mach-ten sich die Streitkräfte daran, der ursprünglichen AFM-Anforderung („American Federation of Musicians“) nachzukommen und die Aufzeichnungen nicht für kommerzielle Zwecke zu verwenden bzw. zu zerstören.
Background:
V-Disc was a record label founded during World War II through a special agreement between the US government and various private US record companies. Many well-known Schager singers, swing big bands and dance music orchestras of the time recorded special V-Disc records. These 12-inch 78 rpm records (material: vinyl or shellac) were created between 1943 and 1949. The “V” stands for “Victory”.
The records were sent to soldiers stationed abroad for morale boosting and entertainment. From October 1943 to May 1949, eight million 12-inch vinylite discs were delivered to deployed U.S. forces. After the V-Disc program ended in 1949, the armed forces set about complying with the original AFM (“American Federation of Musicians”) requirement that the recordings not be used for commercial purposes or destroyed.
